i want to put videos on windows movie maker but they are not the right type (avi, mpg, m1v...)
i alredy tried changing the extension but it doesnt work, what else can i do

if you got the videos from you camcorder then put them in ur comp using windows movie maker...if they are videos u got from the internet..then get a video converter program, or use something other than windows movie maker (just renaming the file extention won't work)

You have to re-encode the video to avi...Anytime you change formats they have to be converted...it's not just a file ext name.
Just Google "all to avi" and see what it comes up with...

Its simply because you dont have the right codecs. Download and install the codecs first. You can get it here,
free-codecs.com.
Even the converters wont work if you odnt have codecs.

You have analog video files and you need to conver them to digital. You need to use either A/D (analog to digital) software or a video card or external device (like Dazzle) to convert your analog file to digital format.
