Your doctor can order lab work to see how well the body is clearing out toxins in the blood. If these are normal one can conclude the liver is functioning normally. Also, the doctor can palpate or feel the liver for size and firmness. We want a normal size and not hard or nobby. A sample of liver tissue can be taken through biopsy and be evaluated.

A liver profile or enzymes which consists of a LDH, SGOT/AST,Bilirubin,alkaline phosphatase,and the Hepatitis profile for Hep B and C. Positive results will give the MD a clue of liver damage..Then further testing and history taking would be needed to determine a cause of the positive results...

There is a simple blood test. They can check your liver enzymes and other things also. Good luck.
