Paranoia is an excessive anxiety or fear concerning one's own well-being which is considered irrational and excessive, perhaps to the point of being a psychosis. This typically includes persecutory beliefs concerning a likely threat, or a belief in a conspiracy theory. In the original Greek, παράνοια (paranoia) means simply madness (para = outside; nous = mind) and it is this use which was traditionally used in psychiatry to describe any delusional state. However, the exact use of the term has changed over time in medicine, and because of this, modern psychiatric usage may vary.

When your paranoid, it's when you freak out easily or think that something will happen because it's always on your mind and you take all these precautions to avoid it. Ex: If a person is walking down the street and keeps turning around because they think someone is stalking them then they are paranoid.

A paranoid person may feel anything people who are very afraid can feel.

For instance, the person's heart may race or feel like it will beat out of the person's chest.

The person's breathing may get faster or the reverse; it may get slow and shallow.

The person's mind may race, or it may freeze and go totally blank.

The person's eyes may dart, or they may avert anything which moves.
