SUSTAINABLE, healthy weight loss is about 2-5 pounds in the first week and not more than 2 pounds a week after the first week. If you lose it much faster than that, you're almost certainly looking at rebound weight gain, because your body will think you have starved it, and it will start to hoard fat by using calories more efficiently.
That's why, though most of us women need 1800-2000 calories a day, people on strict 1000 calorie diets lose weight fast at first, then the rest refuses to budge! And when they start eating normally again, the weight piles back on - their bodies have become more efficient at maintaining or gaining, even with significantly reduced caloric intake!) Crash dieting actually slows down your metabolism - and that's a bad thing.
Dieting doesnt work, by the way! I 'dieted' my way to a 100 pound weight gain!!!! And I didn't even try any of the extreme gimmicks that my friends had a harder time with.
The ********** O N L Y ********** surefire way to sustainably lose weight , is
1. To make incremental changes to the quality of the calories you eat (read up on LOW GLYCEMIC foods or the G.I. Diet),
2. eliminate the absolute c r a p (deep friend anything, for example)
3. to move your body more - however you do it.
4. Strengthening your muscles will help, too! Stronger muscles burn more calories even in a resting state.
(And yes, I've had sustained success with this. I lost 45 pounds with surprising ease, and have kept it off for a year! Why didn't I lose more? I chose to make other things a priority for a while, but it was a choice. ***The formula I've just outlined did NOT fail me.*** I'll get there, though. Part of my decision to stop at 45 pounds was actually financial - I was into my smallest clothes and had no money for a whole new winter wardrobe.)
Good luck.
You go, girl!
Whatever you do, RESIST the temptation to lose too much, too fast. It WILL backfire.

Assuming the same level of activity, you would lose the same weight in 2/3's the time on 800 calories.

Eating 800-1200 calories is starving yourself. No one should ever go lower than 1500 unless your of very small stature(like midget size). I dont think you need to worry about not losing weight with either of these calorie intakes since there both extremely low.

The difference is that an 800 calorie diet is very dangerous and could produce harmful, long lasting effects. Don't do it! Doctors and nutritionists recommend you never go below a 1,200 calorie diet. It can have potentially very harmful effects, not to mention that 1) you won't be able to maintain your weight loss or your diet because it's simply too little food. you might see results but if you're not learning to eat properly (more fruits & veggies, lots of water, lean protein, whole wheats) then you'll eventually gain some or all of it back... and maybe yo-yo for life. 2) eating TOO LITTLE will put your body into "starvation mode" which will slow down your metabolism and could actually damage it to work slowly for YEARS. You see, because of evolution, when we were a hunter/gatherer society people wouldn't eat for days and our bodies learned to store the fat so that on those days when we didnt have anything to eat, we could still survive. So, if you eat too little your body will think "uh oh, we're starving. better store all the food we get into fat in case this starvation lasts long"... trust me, you don't want to do that to yourself. The effects can last for years... I highly recommend a well-balanced diet.. .and don't forget exercise!

The difference is the kind of food required in certain diet plans. A diet plan is a special menu of foods that help break down fatty tissue. the difference is four hundred calories. the more calories allowed the longer it btakes to lose the desired weight.
