If your answer is yes, have you heard of Operation Christmas Child?

This is a great and fun way to help children by packing up a simple shoe box (men's size 10 box is good) with basic items; pencils, pens, writing paper, candy, gum, soap, etc. You can wrap the box like a Christmas present too.

See: samaritanspurse.org for more information. I find the site to be very helpful and informative.

Don't you think this is a great way to start the holiday season?

I think what you've said here is a wonderful thing. "This" is what I've done for 25 years now. I'm retired Animal Control officer, but I used to dress up as a clown, bring in puppies to Children's Hospital, and spend time with those children, some of which have been abandoned by their parents, for whatever reason. I still do this, but I don't work for animal control. I also go to Nursing homes, and birthday partys for parents who can't afford the money to "hire" a clown. It's really great, and sometimes I think "I" have more fun than the kids! Yippeeee!

That sure is a nice way to start the holiday season. :) I've been doing something similar in recent years. At a local shopping mall they always have a Christmas tree where people can leave presents for unfortunate children whose parents can't afford presents or who don't have parents. I made a habit of leaving a present there when buying presents for my family.

My previous working place did something nice for Christmas too. They chose an orphanage that the staff helped in various ways and before Christmas the kids in the orphanage got to say what they wanted for Christmas and the list got passed on in the company and the staff bought them everything they had wished for. I thought this was a nice way to help too.

Thanks for encouraging people to do nice things like that. I'm sure you just inspired a few people to participate by passing this information on to us. :)

My kids and I do it every year! It teaches my children the importance of remembering those less fortunate than them.
