I have a stable job.... I have been planning on moving out since I was 14 me and my father have never got along. My sister is moving out next month but my dad won't let me go. Should I get emancipated? I have all the requirments as well. As I said before I have been planning and saving. My sister would let me stay with her because she is like my best friend, but does anyone know any laws about this kind of thing in Tennessee? If so please help, I'm desperate..:(

Honey, I have looked & looked & can't find anything. If you are 16 & your father is abusive either emotionally or physically, I say just go on & go with your sister. All he can do is call the police & have them bring you home. IF he is abusive just tell him if he does that you will report him.

Move out anyway. The most he can do at this point is call the police. Then you and your sister can explain to them that your father is abusive and you don't want to go back there. Call protective services, as well. It sounds like you have your head on straight, so I'm sure you'll find the strength to carry this through. Good luck!

Not sure about Tennessee,,but I do know that at the age of 16,here in Maine,,you are at a legal age to move out and not much your parents can do.Yes your sister can be your guardian,if your father truly wants to spend alot of money threw the courts then he can fight it,,but most parents find that it cost way to much to take something like this to court.
Sorry I could not be much help,,,but good luck to you with your life,,,and hopefully with your sister.

See about talking to a Lawyer about the Laws....i LIVE IN Cali and if i wanted to go and live with my sister when i was 16 she would have to take over as my legal guardian, and would have to have a steady place and safe environment for me....so go check it out

You are not old enough for emancipation, but if things are bad at home child services might intervene and allow your sister to have custody.
