I AM NOT THERE

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.

If tears could build a stair way, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Eternity,
Put your arms around me
And let me remember
Things I might forget tomorrow;
And let me hold
Things I might lose tomorrow.

Tears,
Wrap me in a veil
And save me from pain
That is too much for me;
And save me from feelings
That I can't control.

Stars,
Watch over my dreams
And give me the smile
I won't see anymore;
And give me the warmth
I won't feel anymore.

Break of dawn,
Enchant me with your colors
And let me see
The silver strip at the horizon;
And let me see a world
Without you in it.

Life,
Until the day goes by
And tears
Like stars
In eternity
Lose their meaning.

And when the next morning dawns
We will meet again.

---In loving memory to a person who loved life more than anyone else---

Here are some on death:

Be happy while you're living, for you're a long time dead.
-Scottish Proverb

"Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box." : -Italian Proverb

I think of you often
and make no outward show,
But what it means to lose you,
no one will ever know
You wished no one farewell,
not even said good-bye,
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
You are not forgotten
nor will you ever be,
As long as life and memories last,
I will remember thee.
To some you may be forgotten,
to others a part of the past,
But to me who loved you dearly,
your memories will always last.
Nothing can be more beautiful
than the memories I have of you.
To me, you were someone special,
God must have thought so too!
If tears could build a staircase
and memories a lane,
I would walk all the way to Heaven,
and bring you back again. : -Anon.

"Time is not what you think. Dying? Not the end of everything. We think it is. But what happens on earth is only the beginning."
-Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven

"Until the day of his death, no man can be sure of his courage."
-Jean Anouilh, Beckett, 1959

"And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead." : -Bible, Matthew 8:21-22

"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he pass'd;
And the eyes of the sleepers wax'd deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!" :
-George Gordon Byron

The past is the only dead thing that smells sweet. :
-Cyril Connolly, quoted in "Journals and Memoirs" by David Pryce-Jones

"Because I could not stop for Death --
He kindly stopped for me --
The carriage held but just ourselves
And immortality."
-Emily Dickinson, Because I Could Not Stop For Death

"It is possible to provide security against other ills, but as far as death is concerned, we men live in a city without walls."
-Epicurus

Experience with death at any age is a tough thing to deal with. It took me twenty years to get over my mom's death and, in many respects, I still haven't gotten over my daughter's. She was killed in 1986. But I have learned something which, if you'll think about it, might help you understand and deal more easily with the pain. It may seem cruel an blunt to you, but the message is accurate. It's simply this: we survive until we don't.

You have my condolences. I hope this helps.
