Rail: Peter B is correct. Amtrak has about 10-12 trains per day from Albany to NYC; NJT and Amtrak both run frequently to Newark.
Bus: Greyhound/Trailways run many buses to NYC's Port Authority building; there should be plenty of buses over to Newark from there.
Driving: Get on I-87, heading south (NYS Thruway, a toll road. it should be less than $5; I forget the exact price).
If you prefer direct roads with tolls, get off at the Garden State Parkway Exit (not long after Suffern), and follow it for about 20 miles. I-280 or I-78 east will both take you to Newark.
If you hate tolls and don't mind a few extra miles to avoid them, get off the Thruway at Suffern (exit 15) and take I-287 to Morristown. Get off onto Route 24, and take it to I-78 right to Newark.

Metro North does not go all the way to Albany.
You can take Amtrak direct from Albany to New York (Penn Station). From there, you can either continue on Amtrak to Newark, or take New Jersey Transit.

More than that why should we pay for a high speed train from NY to DC? As for one from Beijing to Kazakhstan You would need to ask the Chinese.
