For about a year now, when I'm sleeping and have a dream where I'm getting into a fight, I start throwing punches. My partner has been the night time punching bag for the most part, usually cause when I sart punching, I'm facing the back of his head. Once I even punched my cat when we were taking a nap.

It's weird when it happens because I'm very well aware of it while I'm sleeping. I remember what I'm dreaming about and it's usually a dream of me getting into a physical fight with someone. I end up waking myself up as I'm punching...has anyone else experienced this and is this something that may need some medical attention?

I can honestly say that I'm not holding back any anger or agressions, that would make sence, but without holding anything back, I just don't know what the cause of it is.

Well dreams usually aren't literal, so this whole punching thing may have another meaning.

You should go to a sleep clinic for observation and they usually can decide what treatment to provide you with.

I hope your cat's okay. I think you are working stuff out in your sleep. We
all do that. Is there something going on in your life that makes you anxious?
Maybe, in your past? Before you fall asleep promise yourself to not have
any more fights. You can change your dreams if you try.

IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU MAY BE HAVING SOME FORM OF REM behavior disorder, WERE YOU ARE ACTING OUT YOUR DREAMS.AND THOUGH YOU MAY NOT THINK SO, THERE COULD BE AN UNDERLINING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED.IF I WERE YOU, YES I WOULD CONSULT A DOCTOR. UNLIKE (REM ) RAPID EYE MOVEMENT SLEEP WERE YOU HAVE A CHANGE IN B/P,HEART RATE, IT IS MORE LIKE WHEN YOU ARE AWAKE ,AND YOU MAY HAVE SUDDEN TWITCHY SPASMS, BUT THE BODY IS NEARLY PARALYZED,BECAUSE THE MIND IS BEING SUPPRESSIVE.

You need to go to a sleep clinic. You could have sleep apnea. I've heard of several people doing just this and they were diagnosed with it. You could also be having night terrors.
