Not all, but i've found that most athiest say that religious people are weak and don't think for themselves.

They get offended when religious people assume that they don't have any morals because they are not religious, but by the same token i've seen these same people assume that all religious people are simply brainwashed.

I know a lot of religious people are intelligent and studied their religions before following it.

What if the person has weighed up everything and in the end decides that they think a certain religion makes most sense to them. Why does that make them weak? Why does it make someone foolish to think there is a higher being just because there's not perfect proof?

There's no perfect proof of how life began.

It's not PROVEN that the Big Bang happened. Even so, what was before that? and that? how did it first appear?

Why are religious people expected to have all the answers when the athiest also do not have them?

Just wondered. FYI i'm undecided about god/no god

Yeah... it HAS recently been proven that the Big Bang happened.

And by my experience, it's the other way around. Most of the Christians I've encountered have claimed to have many more answers than atheists and often berate atheists for not having the "absolutes" that the Bible supposedly can provide.

It's not foolish to believe in something that is supported by very plausible evidence. It MAY BE foolish to believe in something inconsistent, incomprehensible, inconceivable and even incoherent. It MAY BE foolish to hang onto a comforting delusion because of fear of death or lonliness or insignificance.

But yes, I do know a lot of intelligent religious folk. Not all religious people are brainwashed morons.

Oodles of good stuff here. Cool.

One reason some atheists say that religious people are weak is that the main reason for a religious person to be moral and good is to avoid eternal punishment and/or attain an eternal reward. Whether this is true or not, I leave to you.

Another reason is that faith is, ultimately, a meaningless term. Many atheists view faith as the turning off of the brain. One can have just as much faith in a purple unicorn as in god. Faith just doesn't prove anything other than a propensity for wishful thinking. It's not that there's no perfect proof; there's no proof at all.

There aren't perfect proofs of how life began, however using science gives us testable theories so that we can investigate it, whereas religion tells us to throw up our hands and accept it without investigation.

It is proven that the Big Bang happened. We know because the radiation from the explosion permeates the universe. Of course, that's just one of many pieces of evidence. As to what was before that, we don't know. But that doesn't lead to a god being there before.

I don't know many atheists who expect religious people to have all the answers, but religious people always speak as though they do, no matter how irrational the answer might seem to an atheist. However, there will always be people on either side of the issue who refuse to acknowledge that they don't know something.

You are telling the truth here. Atheists do think religious people are unintelligent, brainwashed human beings.Actually, they talk as though we are LESS than human.Their smugness and self-proclaimed superiority practically emanates from the screen. But their self-righteous attitudes just strengthen my faith even more. I certainly don't claim to have all the answers. There is much I don't understand ,but that's because I don't have the mind of God.Only He has all the answers and I trust Him implicitly. That faith I have in God didn't come to me as a result of brainwashing. It came as a result of much praying and seeking God and the answers He has given me in return. If you sincerely seek God and open your heart to Him,He will show you the way. Please don't let all the biased answers here sway you.Having a personal belief and relationship with God doesn't make you weak or dumb.It means that you have decided,on your own and without influence from closed minds, what is best for you as an individual.
So many people want absolute proof that God exists. If He can't be seen, then He must not exist; that is the mindset of the atheist. But yet when we ask the atheist where is the absolute proof that the big bang happened since we never saw it happen,we get all kinds of degrading remarks about our intelligence. Isn't that question the equivalent of asking for proof of God,since we can't see Him? Atheists say there is proof from science proving the big bang theory, but there is also scientific proof that not only refutes much of the theory, but points to a Creator.Scientists can't always explain certain things that only a Creator could explain, just as we as Christians can't explain certain things because only the Creator knows the answers. The universe itself is so complex that science will never be able to uncover all its secrets. It's just too illogical to believe all that complexity was formed from by some unguided naturalistic process starting from a primevil mass of subatomic particles and radiation over a period of approximately 20 billion years. Atheists are more willing to believe that all living things come from nothing in which the "nothing" came from nothing which came from nothing, etc.,(in simple terms) than to believe a Creator was involved in giving life. Even with my mind open to all possibilities,it just does not seem or feel right or logical.
The only advice I can give you is too objectively research both sides of this issue, the evolutionist and creationist sides, and see which views you find to be more logical and true. In the words of an atheist, educate yourself on evolution. I think you may find,as I did, that there are just too many inconsistencies and too much proof against it,to take it all to heart.

Just like many Xtians, many of those claiming to be atheists are lazy.

Many Xtians are lazy b/c they put all there faith into a few general statements.

Many Atheists are lazy b/c they refute the existence of God because of a few base questions that they know there is no answer for.

Few, on either side of the religious pendulum, have done ample research or have truly posed a valid argument. Even less respond with any form of evidence supporting their own theorems.

I myself, like thought provoking questions, and encourage responses when I ask them, and respond when I see one I like.

You are right, there is no proof of a singular event that led to the Big Bang, yet. Nobody has the answers, but, we can all hope for some logical and validating arguments while we spend our time on this board, and not succumb to useless banter.

the reason some atheists consider religious people stupid and/or uneducated is because there seems to be small but vocal portion of religious people who ARE stupid and/or under educated. they post ridiculous "questions" concerning evolution revealing that they don't even have a basic understanding of biology. they ask questions like "prove there is no god". how moronic and tedious.
they assume that disbelieving in their religion means automatic depravity. Fundies are willfully ignorant vindictive wackadoos who enjoy feeling "different" and provoke hostility so they can feel "persecuted for their religion". all this and more is why religious folks get called stupid and weak minded.

tho it's sad that some very reasonable and moderate religious folks get splashed with the paint from the broad brush used on the Fundy wackadoos it's to be expected as long as the reasonable and moderate religious folks allow the wackadoos to represent their religion.

ZeroCool, how about a website!!!
Yes, religious people are brainwashed. They brainwash themselves in what they believe.
Yes, it is not proven that the Big Bang happened. They say that something happened with energy. I don't know, but they say also that energy has always existed.
But, if everything is matter, then energy is matter.
All matter stops at 0 degrees Kelvin.
How do you know that the universe didn't start at 0 degrees K until God created it?

Intelligence is not the opposite of brainwashing. You can make an intelligent defense of ideas that were shoved into your head.

Besides, there is evidence that atheists have morals, and there is evidence that religions have a strong tendency to close your minds, so that you stop discussing certain facts and exploring certain possibilities.

I'm not offended if they call me immoral, because I know I'm not. And I know for a fact that religions are actually devised as a way to check people's initiative and creativity, restricting it ONLY to the support of preconceived ideas.

So, I'm sorry, but I think that's how it is...

You said a lot of people are intelligent and studied their religions before following it. Amen.

Those aren't the ones I worry about. It's the ones who carry signs that say God Hates Fags. It's the ones who put on bombs to blow themselves up and think they will go to heaven for it. It's the ones who don't know anything and don't want to know anything. It's the ones who believe the perfect expression of faith is to kill people. It's the ones who drive to church on Sunday in their Lexus and thank God for all their cash, and don't turn a tap to help anybody else because let all those liberal bleeding hearts help the poor, I pay my taxes. It's the ones who think they're better than other people because they belong to their religion, and the other people do not belong to their religion.
There are more of those than there are rational thinkers who have studied and decided to follow a religion.

Well it hasn't been proven how gravity works either, do you deny that it does?
The ironic thing about your post is that in the first sentence you say "
religious people are weak and don't think for themselves" and then explain that by cutting and pasting from other websites.
Face it, you're almost a born again as it is, why not simply have the lobotomy and be done with it?

As for the brainless moron below me who says "gravity is mass" prove it S for brains.
The fact is, there is NO law of gravity. Not one that is widely accepted anyway. Newton's "laws" were his and his alone. The scientific community does not accept them.
If you were to ever crack a book without a centerfold in it, you might know that...

The Bible says in Genesis 1:1," In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.". It's easier for me ( for what it's worth) to believe in God than to believe that the universe condensed out of nothing. Some people look at a leaf and see a design; others look at a leaf and see a Designer.
