God is irrelevant.
A truly kind and benevolent God would want people to learn to consider the consequences of their actions for themselves instead of basing their actions on faith in the words of prophets who could easily have been false.
If God doesn't want people to think about the consequences of their actions, he is evil and should be ignored.

I do, but I need to clarify: I believe in God, the Father, maker of heaven and earth, who sent his only son, Jesus Christ to redeem us of our sins.
(I just didn't want anyone to suppose my God is any other god, created by mankind)
