Hmmm.... As far as answers go everyone was pretty close, good job. The only "mistake" that was made is the emphasis on protecting Federal Judges. That is part of a U.S. Marshal mission, the mission of the U.S. Marshals is to Protect the Federal Judiciary, judges being only a part of that. In other words we protect the system so that the Judiciary can function without threat, violence, or disruption. We also execute warrants, transport prisoners, provide security in courtrooms, process all new arrests in the federal system, and manage the witness security program (witsec).

Think of US Marshal's as Federal sherrifs. Among other things they:
1. Guard and transport prisoners in federal custody
2. Provide security for federal judges
3. Execute federal warrants (arrests, summons etc.).

The US Marshals recover federal fugitives and are responsible for federal prisoner transports and safety. They also protect federal judges.

Keep track of Federal prisoners - move them around between prisons and trial locations. They also serve Federal warrants and track down Federal fugitives - so it can be a very dangerous job at times.
