Absolutely!! Kids may not always hear what we say, but they always watch what we do. There is no greater influence than your parents. We will not be the only influence, we must be the best influence. Additionally, I want to qualify by saying that seeing anyone else do something does not justify inappropriate behavior.
Some things are appropriate for adults and not for chidlren. They must also learn to distinguish the difference.

Parents are the ones who need to set good examples for their children. Even when parents do that, children learn from other sources too and those sources may not be setting good examples. When they look at you, I believe they'll know who to listen to and who to follow.
Parents, being the human beings that they are, sometimes slip and don't set good examples. Here's one sample. When I worked in the circulation area of a public library, people would come in with their children and when it was time to check out material, their records would show a fine. The fine was valid, however, the parent(s) would insist that they brought the library material back on time. We could see more on our computer than they knew and it was obvious that the book was more than a day late. They'd argue up one side and down the other. Well, it wasn't worth an argument(that's what we were told), so we would wipe the fine out. Now what message did their child learn? If you squawk and argue enough, you'll get what you want. When their child is a teenager and does the same thing to them, they wonder if their child got that from.

ann: The answer is a plain YES ! YES ! YES ! Sadly, I must say, that adults in all walks of life fail greatly in this area. We have government officials stealing, lying and ANYTHING to get into office or re-elected. We have adults chasing the "almighty" dollar at the expense of their families, to name a couple of examples. When children see adults, who they deem significant to them, stealing, cheating and failing to "do the proper and right thing", given any circumstance, they [children] will mimic the very same responsive behaviour. We are only, "kidding ourselves", thinking we are getting away with things. As the old saying goes; our past has a nasty habit of coming back on us and biting us in the a** !!!

Of course we need to set a good example for our children. We can't sit around and do drugs in front of our kids but tell them DON'T DO DRUGS. Apples don't fall to far from the tree.
