most records like that are delt with out your county health department now this is tricky to answer so i will give you my situation because im not to sure what yours is. I had a baby girl 7 months ago. I have been seperated from my ex for a year and im going through a divorce. My situation is a little different but bare with me you kind of need to hear it all to get where i am coming from. I got pregnant my soon to be husband now but i was not allowed to put him on the birth certificate because legally my soon to be ex husband is her father. We recently went to court for the divorce and he had to give up rights to my daughter so my fiance who is her biological father could get rights to her so my fiance had to go to court and claim her. Now if there is a father on the birth certificate i think you need his permission to change the childs last name. If the father has rights to the child even if he doesnt live up to them you have to have his permission and it cost differently depending on where you live im in florida so it was 30 bucks for mine and the father has to fill out a paper to. But if you are wanting to change the childs name so another person or father figure to have rights it would be more than a name change situation you would have to get in touch with the childs biological father who would have to agree to give up his rights which means if you are seperated or divorced he will no longer pay child support on that child and the other person would take that responsibilty and become the childs father but if on the birth certificate father is unknown you sure can change it unless you have someone as the father then u need the father on the birth certificates permission if. i really hope this helps i know is confuseing i just went through it all. if you have anymore questions email me on yahoo and ill be more than glad to help if i can. good luck to you.

nicely, possible spend continually with him and it sounds to me like he needs the comparable element. I in basic terms found out that one in each and every of my terrific pal's mom and dad on no account have been given married and that they have got been mutually for 30 years. He treats her with a lot admire and that that they had a new child mutually (my pal) 27 years in the past. It did no longer take something remote from their dating. yet you have to be sure if it incredibly is happy with you. The extra you press on him to communicate approximately it he must be getting pushed away it incredibly is absolutely the opposite of what you like. in actuality, by capacity of his good judgment, the extra you nevertheless carry it up in basic terms reaffirms why he would not decide to get married. I in basic terms think of a few people do in basic terms no longer decide to have the 'contract' in spite of the indisputable fact that it would not propose they love you any much less.

While you could go to court and legally change the childs name, you may want to let the child make that decision as they grow up.

You can file in court, but why would you want to. The child's father is active. And even if not, why do this to your child for no reason.

in the USA you can basically change your name to anything you want it to be...like Mr.T........ that's his whole name now....
or anything you want...so why not be able to change your last name too. to like Smith..or even HTIMS...that's smith backwards...
all you need to do is go to Court and have it done..
you may run into a problem f your saying you want to change someone else's name because you want him or her to be the same as their father..then maybe the court would want to see some proof that he is the father...
but I bet if you wanted to change your name and if you had children you could change everyone's to the same last name..
actors and singers do it all the time, the FBI does it for entire families so they can hide from their past....
it is done all the time...
good luck

I live in Canada and here it can be done. It is done at Vital Statistics. I know somebody who did it for their son so all would have the same surname. I do believe she had to go to family court first, to prove he wasn't in the child's life.

The father can fight it... but it can be done. It's easier to use your last name, and when there is a wedding, change the baby's name too. Actually... it's easier to just get married FIRST.

well when my mum died last year my step father and father fought for custody of my brother...
my dad lost and only gets to see him once a month instead of every fortnight. my step dad also won the fight to change my brothers name to his last name.
so yeah if you take the matter to court which you might have to you could win the case and change his name!

Yes you can. Go to your local court house. You will have to go in front of a judge and explain the reason and he will say whether it's aproved or not
