They are wrong. And they have no hope until they realize their mistake.

That is the real tragedy.

Even if the atheists are wrong, that does not preclude them from living worthwhile lives in the here and now. Atheists do not as a rule, eat children for breakfast, and a lot of them are deeply devoted to their families and communites. They give to charities, love their friends and often help strangers. I don't think that an atheist who lives a fulfilling, happy and loving life, is in any worse a position than someone who has never heard of God. From what I understand, God reads what is in your heart, not what badge you wear on your shirt, or which particular religious club you are affiliated with. If they're wrong, then they'll just have to adjust their thinking - NOT their approach to life!

the hope would be that if there is a supreme super being that supreme super being would be supremely intelligent so would totally understand why an atheist is an atheist and would not pursue pointless eternal revenge on some hapless atheist human for being unable to disconnect their intellect and put blind faith in cultural myths that had little or no relevence in their lives.

If God really exists, there are two possibilities.

1. God decides who to reward and who to punish based on whether or not they follow his favorite religion. In other words, God is evil and really cares nothing about how people treat each other.

The only thing worse than being condemned to hell by such a God would be spending eternity in the presence of such an evil being. Therefore, atheists will wind up in the better location.

2. God decides who to reward and who to punish based on how they treat other people in life. In other words, God is benevolent and really cares nothing about religion.

In this case, atheists have absolutely nothing to worry about.

If I am wrong about a deity presence in the universe, then I have no hope of Xtian salvation.

If you are wrong about a deity presence in the universe, you have wasted a lot of sundays.

if the ahteists are wrong about what. that they don't want to believe an a strict religion? how could they be wrong about that. atheist do believe in a divine power. just not a specific one that's preattached to a whole belief system that has to be practiced.

in your asking of this question you are assuming that athiests believe in heaven/hell etc.

athiests "hope" is self created. athiests dont need to be a crybaby and have a life where magic worshipping is their only "purpose in life". athiests are good people because they CHOOSE to be. not because some surveilance camera in the sky is watching you

Well, when and if we come to that situation, we'll discuss it. In the meantime, everything points out to that atheists are not wrong...

If you're talking about afterlife-wise, might I point out that atheism already isn't very optimistic about that?
