Last year, I really wanted to study abroad in Africa, but my parents said no because they were too afraid i would get hurt or kidnapped (even though we would be out on the savannah basically the entire trip), and it was partly b/c it was an expensive trip too. so i didn't go and my parents sent me to california instead.

but then later on, my mom kept talking to some of her friends who told her that it would be a good opportunity for me, and my mom eventually confessed that maybe she and my dad should have let me go on the trip after all.

so now after a year, my college is offering the same africa trip again, and i want to go more than anything in the world. but i dont know how to ask my parents if they'll let me go. money for us is tight this year, but i know they give scholarships for this trip so hopefully i can get one.

i just know my parents will say no again. but i want to go SO BADLY! how do i get my parents to see that i should go?

the problem is that the trip costs money, and i dont have any money. and i highly value my parents' opinions. yes, i could choose to go no matter what they say, but i'm afraid that will put a huge rift between us.

i understand wanting to please your parents. if you come at them with all the information that you can. if they can stop looking at you as an adult instead of a kid maybe they can change their minds.

You might try getting a part-time job so you could help pay (or even completely pay) for the trip. This might mean you will have to wait until next year, but that would show your parents that you are willing to work hard and be patient in order to take the trip.

If you're in college, exactly why are you asking for permission to do something? You're an adult now. Act like one and make your own decisions. Only you can decide what's best for your future now...and while your parents do have a right to voice your concerns, they no longer have the right to tell you you can and cannot do something. If this is what you want to do, find a way to do it.

If you are in college, you are obviously over 18. How long are you going to have to keep asking mommy and daddy for permission to do things? If you can get a scholarship and it isn't going to cost them anything, then go. Tell them you are going and just let it happen.

you said that you know that money is tight...don't go, stop thinking of youself,if it's meant for you to go you will without a struggle. what if your parents empty thier savings for you to take a trip and they have a serious emergency and don't have the funds to handle it because they sent you around the world.
