or is something else given.

when people get married, rings are worn by the bride and groom as a symbol that they're married.
Is it the same in Egypt?
or is there a different way of having weddings? other than rings?

As chance has it, the oldest recorded exchange of wedding rings comes from ancient Egypt, about 4800 years ago.

According to some historians, the first recorded marriage rings date back to the days when early man tied plaited circlets around the Bride's wrists and ankles to keep her spirit from running away. Approximately 3,000 BC, Egyptians originated the phrase "without beginning, without end" in describing the significance of the wedding ring. These rings were made of woven hemp which constantly wore out and needed replacement.

when an egyptian guy propose to a girl, he gives her a diamond ring( its called shabka) infront of her family (cause he has to ask them), the couple then buy two plain gold or silver rings and at the engagement party they they put them on eachother's right hands.
at the wedding each one of them takes the ring from the other's right hand and put it in the left hand, its a sign of getting married.
so the guy wears a plain ring and the girl wears both the plain and the diamond rings.
before the wedding, the groom also gives an amount of money to the bride's family, this is called "Mahr"
its not a fixed number, the groom and the bride's family decide how much the Mahr will be, it can vary from 1 pound- millions of pounds.
this is because the bride uses this money to buy the furniture of their new house (ofcourse the bride's family add money to the Mahr too) but its like a symbol of resposbility, to show the begining of a life in which the groom will be fully responsible for his wife. so the bride pays for everything from home accessories to furniture and the groom pays for all the electronics.

if i talk about egyptian weddings, i'll say alot, egyptian weddings are amazing,u can ask me later and i'd be happy to tell u:)
