IS anyone selling a small dog in that state of Maryland, DC, or Va..i have checked petfinder..checked every humane society, classifieds, and craigslist...so tell me something I don't know!! Thanks

Try local traders or call your local vets. offices. Sometimes they have listings of breeders/sellers.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of dog your lifestyle fits. Small dogs can be just as much work as a big dog. What breed you find is a good fit will help you start your search.
If you don't care about breed, then I find it hard to believe your local animal shelter or Humane Society does not have any small dogs. If you do care about breed, then look up that breed rescue group on the web. Most rescue groups have branches all over the US. Or check the AKC website.
The other place is your local kennel club. All states have some kennel club which can help you find recognized breeders for dogs. They might advise you of upcoming local events for dog shows where you can talk to breeders in person.
Getting a pet is not a snap decision, so take your time. There is nothing worse than people adopting a pet too quickly without thinking it through, and then dumping it later at a shelter.

what kind of dog. you might just have to wait until a shelter has one that you are looking for. If you give the shelter you name and number and if a dog does come in, they can contact you.

If you have a breed in mind, go to the akc site, (www.akc.org) and look up the breed. Then click on the national breed club link and use their referral service.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE AREN'T ANY SMALL DOGS AVAILABLE IN THE SHELTERS. I WISH YOU COULD GET HERE TO NH. KEEP TRYING THE SHELTERS. MAYBE "YOUR" LITTLE DOG ISN'T READY FOR YOU YET.
