I have a 2004 V6 4X4, and live in Chicago. Most of the time it's around 15 mpg. But winter, and the accompanying traffic,(Illinois state motto "you can't get there from here".) can get it down to 12-13 mpg. You'll know where to find the cheap gas. But overall it's been really dependable, and being short, it's actually easier to parallel park than some cars.

If you are talking about a new one, you can ask the dealership. But honestly any vehicle is a good vehicle if it has been taken care of, before you buy any car always pop the hood, and look for obvious problems such as hardened wiring, cracked hoses or belts, leaks such as oil, coolant, or transmission fluid, the easiest way to do all this is to take it to a mechanic and ask them to give it a once over, and see if it would be worth what the seller is asking for it. It may be a good vehicle now, but what if you get it and then it needs a $400.00 brake job. As for being good on gas I figure the ole V-6 should be pretty good after a routine tune up, with fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires.

17 to 24 miles a gallon because Xterra's are not aerodynamic. But every one that owns one really likes the ruggedness of the trucklet SUV. Simple easy to care for you will like it for lots of reasons rome for gear and four people is one reason. Some 2002 to 2004 are supercharged 210 horsepower. My choice would be a 2005 2006 with the 4.0 liter engine 265 horsepower no less mileage.
