They had their own gods and because they didn't know of or believe in the Christian hell, chances are they didn't go there.

It was a Buddhist who once said, "All religions are simply different roads to the same place."

I have to agree. A while back there was a group of people found in the Amazon that had never had contact with people on the outside. They know nothing about all this technology and speak a language that no one else understands. No one knows how long they have been there or what they've seen or believe. They have never heard of the Bible or Jesus. Are they damned for hell as well?
It makes no sense to me

the bible says that God is a fair and a just God. even the indians way back in some part of the Africa have stories about the flood. God has put inside man the instinct to want a God. they know there is a God and all they have to do is look around them

It depends on the religion. I'm sure the Chinese/African/Native Americans who didn't know god don't think they're going to hell, but if you ask the pope he'll probably say they are. Although I know for a while at least these people were believed to be sent to purgatory, along with the unbaptized babies.

The thing that keeps you OUT of heaven is knowing and rejecting. If you never knew you cant reject.

Theres two beliefs here. Either they will be judged by their works, OR because Christ died for all sins, and rejecting him is the only one not covered, they'll get a free pass, so to speak.

Not knowing doesnt equal rejection.

Which reminds me of the story of the Missionary who visits Eskimos for the first time and tells them the "Good News" about salvation and damnation. He asks the Eskimo Chief if he wants to believe, the Eskimo Chief asks the missionary :IF you never told me, would I be damned to hell? No Replied the Missionary, "Then why did you tell me"? replied the Chief...

Mike Savage made an analogy that I find both plausible and appealing:

He believes that all religions of the world are like spokes on a wheel that all lead to one God.
