Does gourmet chef mean like10 years experience, exec. chef, or what. I have a culinary degree and have never heard of this ranking until recently job hunting.

You are right about the rankings. Executive is the top, ever see one really cook? they're the creators, Gourmet creates the Exec. Ideas for approval, Station Chef does just that, work the specialty stations, be it Grill or Pan and Sous do the prep. It does take time to advance but as they say, right place right time. The guy at the end of the line? he's not ready to play with fire yet but he will sharpen your Knives.

Usually a gourmet chef is one that does small amounts of 'creative' cooking.
Being a Hotel/Resort Chef in charge of feeding thousands a day at $15 a plate is different than being Wolfgang Puck and feeding 50 people once a week for $500 a plate.

Gourmet Chef's are food experts they know more than ordinary Chef's...Gourmet Chef's are experts in food and drink

If you are the 'chef' at McDonalds or Denny/s that's one kind of chef.
If you work at Window's Of The World, that's another. Right?
