Don't waste your time buying a straightener for under $20 unless you have really fine, naturally straight hair. Those may work for a while but over a short time, those cheap plates will wear out. Also, they don't get very hot so it's very ineffective and your hair will not stay straight. Save up your money or ask for one for Christmas. Make sure it has ceramic plates and an adjustable heat setting so that you can get what works best on your hair. I've had mine for three years after getting a cheap one and it's really lasted. You get what you pay for. You may only be spending $20, but you'll have to replace it every year, when you can get a good one for under $60.

Typically, 20 dollars or less for flat irons is not a good idea. They are cheaply made and usually do not work well. They do not really straighten them, burn the hair sometimes, and many are so poorly made your hair often gets stuck, at least from personal experience.

I have a 50 dollar flat iron, after throwing out my 20 dollar one I bought thinking cheap wouldnt really make a difference. Not saying the more expenisive the better, but I do think you should take your time and do a little research to find the best flat iron for your hair type. Definately do not get the kind that has little roller type things in them, because it eats your hair. And always make sure to buy a good quality one, because it really does pay off. Your hair will look great!

neither are very good....the best cheap one i've come across is the Revlon Ceramic for $25. Ceramic is way better for your hair, and the flat iron heats up really well.

be sure to skip the white and gold plate one--I had it a long time ago and it SUCKS!

You should consider a flat-iron to be an investment. A $20.00 flat-iron is not made well and will ruin your hair.
Andis is a brand that makes very good professional clippers, but I would never recommend them for a flat-iron. The best one you can get is a Chi. If you can't afford one of them, go to Sally Beauty Supply and ask them to help you. They range from $45.00 to $100.00 there.

you should be able to get a decent one for about 20. Just make sure you get the one that has the ceramic plates. My hairdresser also recommended a smoothing serum ( silkworks) before you straighten and a shine spray ( got2b dazzling) afterwards. hope this works for you.

Get a Chi! They're pretty expensive but its way worth the investment! Not only do they straighten your hair but they make your hair look really smooth and silky.

I bought a black conair with gold plates from walmart for under $20.00. I have fat hair and it works wonders. My firends are amazed at the differance.
