How do people from other nations treat expatriate Americans?

If an American decided to leave the United States, how would they be treated in another country, particularly Eastern Europe and Asia?

Here in Canada we treat them like friends. We are getting tired of the right wingers though. How could you guys be so stupid as to re-elect Bush and his ultra conservatives?! Cheney and Rumsfeld are from the hated Nixon administration for crying out loud. Perle and Wolfowitz should never have gotten so close to power. It's now wonder Americans are hated more and more all over the place. Read the United Nation's "Universal Declaration of Human Rights". It was written by a Canadian but it was American influence that got it passed back in 1948. Now you guys are working against it without removing your support first. Under Bush America has violated many internationl covenants and laws. STOP and people will warm to you again. Until then enjoy the wilderness.

Truth be known, ex pats are treated very well in many countries.

Central & South America, the Phillipines and a host of others.

With that said, there are many reasons to treat these ex pats so nice. The primary reason....MONEY. While the governments of these countries welcome us with open arms, they do place restrictions, like a minimum $$ amount you must have in income per month, which is only fair.

Many ex pats I know purchase/rent property, hire maids, gardeners, etc etc

I would imagine it depends on the individual. I live in the UK, am engaged to an American and have friends from all around the world, especially Germany, USA and Australia. People should be judged on their own merit and not by nationality.

Asians love American women. they would treat us fine if we was LEGAL.
