In pool, it's mostly about offense and accuracy. Snooker requires a bit more finesse - playing defence and safety as well. But you're not going to be a good player of either game unless you can do both.

In snooker, I'd say defense. After all, that is the name of the game. With the larger table and fewer target balls, more defensive shots are made. Plus, you get points if your opponent fouls.
In pool, a lot more shots are offense.

Playing safety shots may seem like a defensive move, but it is actually offensive because your goal is to regain and keep control of the table. Accuracy is important for both pocketing balls and making safe leaves.

I play to win. But, if I try to make a hard shot I not sure of making I may play defense to keep my opponent from having a shot, but, to do this we sometimes miss a shot we could have made.

I think playing defense is more important because you have to know where your shot will end up IF you miss.
