One knee has been hurting, but I thought that it was probably just stiff and needed working out. So I went jogging, and came back with two sore knees. I didn't run hard: I actually walked most of the way (about a mile or so). Any ideas as to what could be causing this, or what I could try to make them feel better? I'm a normal weight, and I'm not completely out of shape, but I'm not an athlete either. So I'm not familiar with athletic injuries. It's not really intense pain.

star off slow. Your body will adapt to whatever you do...but, i don't know your background so...

Do some biking. The movement of the knee capsule will help blood flow and healing without as much jostling. you can still walk/jog but get your body slowly used to it. Do some light/moderate weight exercises to help stregnthen the knee capsule. Any half a$$ed trainer should be able to help you withe a few basic moves. You WILL experience some soreness. As time goes on over the next month or two, see how much improvement you make. DON"T overdo it or get frustrated. Give your body sufficient rest. Don't jog everyday at first or try to go too intense. take it as it comes. If you can't seem to adapt, get checked out. The way your knee joint is articulated as well as your hips and how you move/gait all play a factor. A running coach could watch you and see if he/she notices anything odd. If pain stays constantly inside the joint..see an muscle/bone specialist. I don't know your age and history but don't give up on exercise just yet. Take your time.

Oh..don't forget to start out with a nice new pair of footwear especially for your foot/arch/pronation type. This can also effect your knees. (WARM-UP/STRETCH)

Your shoes may no have enough cushion in them for you and you are jarring your legs to much. Try shoes with more cushion. Some stores will let you try out shoes on a treadmill and www.roadrunnersports.com has a 30 day money back guarantee if a shoe does not work for you

You might have tennis elbow. This is from repetitive forceful motions with your elbow, and basically it's a ripped tissue in your elbow. The pain can radiate out from the elbow and you'll feel it in your wrist and the rest of your forearm. Try R.I.C.E.- (rest the arm, ice it, compress it with a brace, and elevate it above heart level) this reduces swelling which is what causes the pain.

Perhaps you have the beginning of arthritis in your knees. or you may have a pulled muscle
It would be best to see a doctor before it gets worse
