Yes, I think so. In fact, showing a desire to be serious about your work is a sign of maturity. I think your teacher will be impressed, as long as you back up your apology with a change in behavior.

I would say yes, but remember, this is an apology, and not an excuse. Apologizing will not be your get out of jail free card. From now on, I'd put my nose to the grindstone when it comes to schoolwork, but I think you've already found that out.

If one of my students told me that I'd be all buttered up and on the verge of tears. Go for it and don't look back!!! Don't forget to match it with a sincere watery look and with a better future performance otherwise you will be in serious trouble..

It's okay only if you make a sincere attempt to improve your work. In a way, you pin yourself in a corner, promising to improve. If you don't deliver, the teacher won't trust you again.
