As though to say...Look at me, i'm eating and you're not...He does it with the cats too. I fill the bowl up with dry biscuits ever day and it's only when, either myself or the cats are near his dish he does this...He takes them out one by one, comes up to you, sits near your feet, looks at you whilst eating.

You are right, that is exactly what he is saying. Ideally, a dog should be fed twice a day, morning and evening, and the food removed as soon as he walks away. This underlines the fact that you are the food provider and his leader. If the food is down and he can help himself, his understanding of who is leader will not be crystal clear. This is because he can feed when he feels like it, and so he is in control of this area. He is pointing out his control over food by eating in front of you when you are not eating, and doing the same to the cats.
This attitude can spill over into other areas of the dog's behaviour. Some examples of possible attitude problems also include not returning when called on walks, pulling on the lead, refusing to move when on the sofa, growling possessively over toys, going hyper and crazy when visitors come. Of course, few dogs develop all these problems! However it is interesting to note how they are linked by what the dog is thinking about his place. What your dog is doing is not problem behaviour and so it is unlikely you will make any changes, but it is interesting to know what he is thinkig.
By showing your leadership in all areas of the dog's life you will ensure that reaches his full potential as a pet and companion.

First of all, I would not give a dog a bowl of dog biscuits. You are going to make the dog over weight that way. And that would be the last thing that you want. I would feed him a nice crunchy kibble this is good for him.

He comes up to you because he is seeking your approval. I think.

Whoa, thats way too many biscuits, even my neapolitan mastiffs are only allowed around 10 each a day and they are both over 70 kilos! like somebody else said though, you only need to worry if your dog is growling at you and being food proud, a big grin while he is eating his biscuits is not unusual :-)

Maybe he just wants to show you what a good dog he is by eating up all his biscuits. I don't think he is doing it to upset you or the cats :)

He's just eating...get worried if he takes the biscuits and runs off to hide under a table to eat them while growling at anyone who passes by. THAT"S a problem.

He might just be saying thank you Mommy! My dog always takes it's cookies out of her dish and eats them someplace else to keep them away from the cats, she doesn't even like the cats sniffing her cookies.

THE 5 CRUCIAL FOOD GROUPS ACCORDING TO DOGS:
November 1st 2006 8:22 am [link to this entry]
1. In the bowl. (A good foundation, but important to supplement with other groups.)
2. Off the table. (Most varied group, but best eaten when no one is looking.)
3. On the floor. (A nutritious way to snack between meals.)
4. Grass - taken at least once a day to enable vomit activity. (Vomit activity best engaged in while resting head on caretaker's lap.)
5. Poop. (At least once a day for overall digestive happiness. May be taken topically via rolling in it.) Best if eaten immediately after production. Be sure to lick owner in face after ingestion.

My nan's dog does this. I think they just don't want to miss anything while they are eating. They want to keep an eye on everything.
My dog always hurries her dinner because she can't wait to get back in the room with us!
