Well, if by "negative", you mean subjective and maybe even erroneous criticism, most people would be offended by that. If you mean a strongly-built argument that's difficult to answer or even just a plain statement of disagreement, that's another matter.

Essentially, Islam is a very fundamentalist religion. By that I mean it takes its teachings literally and very seriously: it considers itself to the be the last word in divine revelation, respecting what came before it (Judaism and Christianity) as steps on the way but believing itself to be the ultimate revelation.

If you believe your religion is the last word and are not brought up to put it to the test and see how others may disagree with it, you are unlikely to remain calm and composed when faced with criticism, be it constructive or not, because you have not been taught how to defend what you believe and simply don't know how to discuss. This phenomenon has been observed not just in Islam down the centuries.

If you were more of a man of the world, you would understand that everyone can be sensitive about comments made to them or about them. It all depends on the context of the comment and the obvious or apparent intention of the person who makes the comment.
Sadly, many people currently are deliberately commenting on Islamic matters intent on causing a reaction. It is an unfortunate way of the world with many people that they must comment on anyone or anything that is different to themselves and their own way of living.
You may remember your schooldays (if you have left school) and the taunts that you received from your peers?
If everyone went by the saying "always treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself" then there would be very little antagonism in the world!

The same reason any person would be sensitive to negative comments about what they believe..But here some people really go to the extreme and are offensive..natural reaction of any person is to defend what they believe in....what is wrong with that??

they represent the worst and most backward of religious beleif systems. A pile of out of date shite straight out of the dark ages. In muslim countries people who oppose or disparage Islam are met with oppression and hate through fear. Is it any wonder that when these people blunder forth into the modern world they lash out at anyone who does not beleive what they do? They have had it drummed into them from day one that Islam is the be all and end all and everything else is just wrong, Any criticism of their dark little closed minded view of the world is going to be attacked by them without hesitation.

Perhaps it is because they are very good at public relations, and want to repair their tarnished image.
A favorite sport for them is spreading untruths about Jews and Judaism, such as: God did not promise Israel to the Jews, the Jews killed Jesus because he was not circumcised, the Holocaust never happened, etc, etc, etc....

Offense is a good reason for a defense of their beliefs.

People offend them about Allah, they scream outrage and return in riot. Christianity is no big deal to liberals.

I guess some of them can't take it. No one yelled too loud about the the cleric in Australia who said women are "slabs of meat" and deserve to get raped if they are not fully covered. The women should them be thrown in prison for life, since the devil uses women to entice the men into sinning.

Welcome to the age of offense, ladies and gentlemen.
