I bought a used car from a dealer. The car was purchased as- is( no warranty). Well I drove the car for one day and discovered it had a ton of problems, which the dealer had not told me about. Now, If I decide to keep the car, I'll spend more than a thousand bucks for repair and I bought it at two thousand. My question is do I take back the car and demand my money? will the dealer give me back my money. I bought the car on Monday this week.

The thing which is bothering me is that the dealer told me there is nothing wrong with the car, which as I have discovered is a lie.

Sorry to say, but for $2k you weren't expecting much, were you? Doesn't 'as is' mean anything to you? Didn't you check it out before you parted with your hard earned cash?
Is it fair? Some would say yes. Let the buyer beware and all that. My guess is the dealer would not have to give you money back, but he might. It all depends on the kind of guy he is. If not, there's always small claims court...
::follow up:: If he told you it was good and it isn't, that is misrepresentation and you should try to take him to court. If its your word against his you may have an uphill battle.

I would try to demand your money back. Yes you did buy the car as is but think about it, the dealership has a reputation to uphold so yes demand your money, and maybe even threaten with going to the local news or paper. I work at a dealership and even on as-is units we inspect them to the best of our ability and yes sometimes things still happens, its a used car. Dont wait to long though, the longer you wait the harder it becomes. Ask the dealer to split the cost fix the car if you really want to keep it.

Where do you live? It depends on the state or province you are in and the laws when it comes to car dealers. What is written in the contract-bill of sale AS IS is just that, no warranty expressed or implied. You could try and get your money back if you make enough noise. Good Luck!

some states have lemon laws designed to protect you against things like this. Also many car lots these days say they perform inspections on the cars they sell. Check into both so you are informed when you go in. Even if you have nothing you should try, what do you have to lose, but honestly there is a reason they sell $2000 cars as is so dont expect much.

My mom bought a lot of junkers. Usually they were guaranteed for 90 days. When you by a car there is an implied warranty of at least some serviceability. I know they weren't guaranteeing these cars out of the goodness of their hearts, must have been some kind of law (Tennessee in this case) behind it. This would cover "power train only" as you might expect.

Call your attorney general to see what your "lemon law" permits!
Then hit back on the sleazy dealer that scammed you! "AS IS" might mean "AS IS" but some states have laws governing the sale of automobiles that might effectively void that! Some states also have laws that allow a specific time to void a contract which a car sale would ultimately fall into!

You may not want to return the car - just think for another thousand bucks, you can have a really nice car. The car you bought for only 2k would now be worth 3k.

A number of places have laws against this. Usually you have a week to take back a used vehicle if there are problems like you are describing.
Talk to the police and go from there. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

if you bought it from a dealer...there is an implyed 30 day warranty in almost every state...and this applys to private sellers as well.
Even if it said as is...that really doesn't matter...they have a responsibility to sell you a good car.
Call your local county attorney...they will give you free advice on this matter.
Hope this helps
