If you have recently got married, and applied for a credit card with your married name, not realising that the company that you applied with is one you had an outstanding debts with before you got married, how easy would it be for them to check up on that?

Sorry should have explained, Ilive in England and we dont have social security numbers. It just asks for name, work, address, phone number etc, and all that has changed since last time

I think your "national insurance number" is the equivelent to the U.S. "social security number". If the card company asked for that, then it is most likely how it will be tracked.

I'm not familiar with England personal tracking records. Is there anything that would be equivalent to the American Social Security Number, one that stays with you for life? If so, they would probably use it to track your credit history.

I find it hard to believe there isn't some way for them to track your credit rating in the UK. If they didn't everytime you got married it would wipe your slate clean and they would constantly give credit cards to people with bad debt.

Your last name doesn't mean all too much, it's driven by your Social Security number, so they'll know it's you.

be prepared for collection calls on the old acct...why open a new acct if you didnt pay the old one?
