This is a real problem. If you are in the country illegally and you apply for citizenship you may be deported and told to apply from outside the US. Then you misdemeanor will come out and you may be classified as an undesirable. If you are arrested in the US say at a worksite, etc. you will be deported and since you were found in the country as an illegal will not be granted a visa.
You need to talk to a good immigration lawyer to get his advice on how to proceed. There may be some way to apply for an exemption but you need to see what to do before anything happens.

I don't think after being here for so many years you would just get deported! Didn't the recent illegal immigrant bill, give those who have been here for seven or more years the chance to apply?

Were your parents legal residents?
If so, then you stand a good chance of being eligible.

An attorney told you that? You need a better attorney.

Wait around. Next Presidential immigration parole for illegals should be soon, then you can be legal.
