Going to sleep is way better than being awake for 4 extractions!
1) Have soft foods on hand for dinner & and the next few days. Ice cream, yogurt, scrambled eggs, soups.
2) You might be "weird" when you first wake up so have somebody with you that won't mind! Weird is acting strange, walking in a different direction -- and vomiting because of the anesthesia.
3) Follow the oral surgeons instructions. Don't try home remedies. They no longer recommend salt water rinses.
I know it's a bummer to have it done but better now than later.

When I went too MCRD- Marine Corps Recruit Depot (BootCamp) they surgically removed all 4 of my wisdom teeth. Mine were not yet through the skin and would never have came through because they were growing at a incorrect angle. Being that I was at Boot Camp it was against regulations too put me asleep. It was quite painful of course. After they were removed I was on bed rest for at least 5 days. From what I can recall, I dont think that going back too work would have been a option at this time due too the pain. However I was of course in bootcamp and the only medication I was allowed was 800mg of Motrin a day. For you they may prescribe a much stronger medication. But if they do then you most likely will not be able too drive anyway. My best advice would be too make arrangements too have some time off from work too recover from this. Good Luck

The only advice that I have for you is to make sure that you will have a quiet room to go to once you get home. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled also, and I was very tired and in a lot of pain. Make sure you have soft food that you will be able to eat, such as soups, and jello. Good Luck!

I had all 4 of mine out a few years ago. I was put to sleep also. I had a lot of pain with them before they were out because they were impacted. It was a piece of cake having them taken out, felt nothing, they sent me home with some pain killer and only had to take a couple of them. Not much pain at all and I went to work the next day. So do not worry to much about it.

First off you're not "asleep". IV sedation just gives you temporary amnesia (my husband still swears he wasn't concious!!) and raises your pain threshold for the surgery. Of course with IV sedation make sure that you have some one to drive you home from the dental office and stay with you for several hours in case you're still "loopy". In the good ol' US Air Force; we only give 72 hrs off. Follow the dentist post op care and 800mg Motrin or OTC Motrin should be good for any post op pain associated with swelling. If you're rx any narcotics let your work know and only take them at night to let you sleep. You should only be in pain for the first couple days. But remember!!! You're having surgery even "minor" surgery needs special care.

Please make sure that you talk to your Dentist before hand about the prescribed antiobiotics and let them know what doesnt sit well with you. I had mine removed over the summer and had a very bad reaction to my antibiotic. But the procedure was smooth felt drunk afterwords but no pain at all. Good luck and keep your Dentist informed if any complications.
