I don't have any kids yet. But I'm worried that when I do, they will be neglected from a proper education because of all the illegals being granted amnesty. I can't see how the government is going to fund a school system that it already can't afford. they will be so concentrated on the illegals education and getting them up to par, that it's gonna hold back the students that are citizens and do speak english. Also who's gonna pay for this funding to educate illegals that aren't going to pay for it themselves? Oh, I forgot, the taxpayers get to. Hurray!!

NO, I am a teacher and I can tell you first hand, these offspring of illegals and illegal children are ruining our educational system. It takes time away from educating American students when teachers have to explain things to a kid who does not understand English. They bring more drug and gang violence into the schools. Teachers are getting fed up with allowing these children into the schools. It cost tax payers billions to educate these children who deserve to be educated in their home countries! Illegals free lunches and breakfast alone cost millions, that is not counting the rest of the educational cost. Cal. and other states with a large population of illegals are going bankrupt educating these people! The catholic church are hypocrites on this subject. they think it is okay for illegals to steal, covet, break mans laws and have 6-7 kids out of wedlock. Guess they pick and choose which part of God's work they want to follow huh!

Amnesty does not matter. They are already in the school system and have been for years The schools cannot discriminate against them because they are illegal. That is what people are so upset about. They use our services and the government does absolutely nothing. The costs are in the billions and the government does nothing. Yes it will affect the quality of your child's education. Write your congressman and anyone else and scream your head off. Maybe they will listen. People complain about Bush but this has been going on far longer than that.

Overcrowding, whether by illegal or legal children, will continue to be a problem preventing children from getting a quality education.

Perhaps rather than worrying about the amount of children, we should be working towards how to make our schools better. People constantly vote down school bond issues, quality teachers leave for the private sector, education is last on the priority list for spending.

I find it appalling that the government "can't afford" to educate our children, but somehow it finds $250 million a day--a day!-- to prosecute a war.

Education. Based on estimates of the illegal immigrant population in California and documented costs of K-12 schooling, Californians spend approximately $7.7 billion annually on education for illegal immigrant children and for their U.S.-born siblings. Nearly 15 percent of the K-12 public school students in California are children of illegal aliens. While the primary responsibility for combating illegal immigration rests with the federal government, there are many measures that state and local governments can take to combat the problem. Californians should not be expected to assume this already large and growing burden from illegal immigration simply because businesses or other special interests benefit from being able to employ lower cost workers. The state must adopt measures to systematically collect information on illegal alien use of taxpayer-funded services and on where they are employed. Policies could then be pursued to hold employers financially accountable.

Unfortunately, I sense that many of the answers to this question are making generalized statements about Mexicans. The fact is, most Mexicans that I knew out west were born here in the USA, and their families have been in the USA for generations. They all spoke English and Spanish. As a matter of fact, most congressional Medal of Honor winners are Hispanic, and most of them are Mexican. There is a big difference between an illegal and a none illegal. I do not want any illegal in my country, no matter where they come from.

Ok - since you don't like having illegals in the schools, let's kick them all out without an education. Then, they can wander the streets, unable to read, with no skills, no job, paying no income taxes, etc. Since they have no jobs, they have to steal to get what they need; they get caught (or not) and end up in already-overcrowded jails. Yeah, that's a great plan... NOT. The "illegals" are in the country whether you like it or not; deporting them might be the desired answer, but it's not remotely feasible, so let's educate them, and make sure they're gainfully employed, paying taxes, and not living off welfare or in the penal system where we'd still have to feed them.

I think you should home-school your kids, so MY kids won't have to be in classes with them, because it's clear they'll be coming to school from a home where nobody THINKS.

Do you realize that most illegals will never get denied an education? So your saying you want a bunch of uneducated, underclass living in our society? Real smart...

Most don't get denied an education because public schools get there funding the state and the more student's they claim, the more funds they receive.....More money, means bigger and fancier schools.....Why don't you blame the govt for allowing this, instead of just simply the illegal?

I live in Texas and at the end of the school year, Mexican kids are bused back and forth for 6 weeks to learn English.
Why isn't my child being bused for 6 weeks, to learn a secondary language.
She would love to learn French.

Our education system is already such an abysmal mess because of liberals I don't see how getting a public education could benefit anyone!

Illegals aren't going anywhere so as long as they're here they might as well get educated and contribute something to society (since they don't pay taxes and health care).
