My friend and I were boxing the other day, and he got me with about 5 pretty hard hits, to the head. We were using everlast 2 inch padded gloves, but we didn't have any head gear. Is this dangerous, and what are the chances of brain damage, if we keep boxing without head gear?
Also, how can you tell if you have brain damage?

The brain is a delicate organ enclosed in a rigid, hard box (skull). With blows to the head the force is transmitted internally and there is nothing to absorb the shocks. The fluid surrounding the brain is a thin layer and not up to the task So the brain bounces from one side to the other hitting the bone. It's not quite so bad with protection but all these little injuries add up to being "punch drunk". And don't forget the cauliflower ears, retinal detachments,
noses that go from ear to ear, missing teeth....get my point??

You can tell if you have brain damage if you find yourself asking "can I get hurt if my friend punches me in the head five times?" HAHA. Sorry... jk.

I'd say you'd be wise to use head gear. Or go get some inflatable boxing gloves instead. Those look like fun!
