I have abrupt changes in mood, often have slutty or promiscuous behaviors and I constantly need positive (or negative, sometimes) attention from other people, especially the opposite sex otherwise I get depressed. Sometimes I have suicidal ideations but I have not ever planned anything formally... I also have experienced bouts of anorexia and binge eating as well as bulimic compensatory behaviors (laxitives, purging, etc..)

I don't usually really WANT to kill myself. More, I just sometimes think it would be easier if fate took care of it-.Like when I drive sometimes, I fantasize about simply running off the road. Or I imagine there being an off button, and pressing it. Sometimes I thnk it would be better if I got cancer or something because then if I died it would not be my fault.
I m studying for my masters in clinical social work so I am somewhat familiar with the disorder which is probably why I am trying to find an answer. I realize my coping skills suck- I guess I want to know if they only suck as much as everyone elses or if it's really rooted in something deeper.

I don't think you have borderline personality. It seems to me that you are very sensitive to certain issues that change you abruptly. The issue about men I think you just need to feel loved a lot. Maybe your father wasn't there for you and you are seeking love from others? This is just what I get from you. Don't get depressed about not getting attention all the time. It sounds like you do get a lot of attention though most of the time. Am I right? The not eating thing is you trying to get attention from others I think. Just look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself I LOVE ME!!! Just do it girl. I think you will be fine. JUST STAY STRONG!!!!!

From your description I don't think it can be said that you definitively have that specific disorder. Also, from your description you do show some red flags for that disorder as well as a couple others. I would recommend seeing a therapist who would certainly be able to pin down what problems you have and help you work through them. Sometimes people have problems that don't always fall in one category as a disorder and may fall over a range of disorders but they can still be worth getting help for. Everyone likes to pin down what their problems are and say "oh I have this disorder" but much of the time people aren't as simple as that. Classifications of disorders are really only categories for what people most closely match but those people don't always fit the description perfectly. Just because someone doesn't fit every point in a description of a disorder doesn't mean he/she doesn't have a problem. Its good to just work through each individual aspect of a problem with someone who knows how to help so I'd say look up a mental health professional and seek their advice.

It's possible that you have the disorder. But more importantly, even though you are not planning to kill yourself, thinking about dying in other ways is still quite serious. You should consider seeing a therapist--why continue to feel this way if you can get some help?!

Well I have it and thats a good description, but why don't you try talking to a doctor or psyciatrist before jumping to conclusions. A counselor or therapist is a great tool in recovery. BPD is not permanent. with therapy it can be gone with in a year. Good Luck

You really need to be evaluated by a professional...you already do feel that these symptoms you have are a problem. So make that first step.

the national mental health association has a crisis line: If you are in a crisis please call
1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255). i am sure they can help you in a more professional manner than a forum. Take care of yourself!!!

You sound like a perfectly normal young person to me, but if the suicidal ideation ever becomes predominant then you should seek help. Good luck and have a great life!

Without a background history, it is hard to get a differential diagnosis. But from my experience, you have some red flags that go with the disorder.

YOU COULD HAVE ANY DISORDER BY THAT description.

Go to psychiatry online and key in your symptoms or look at the descriptions...you might have narcissistic or histrionic as well.
