why are flamingo's pink?

The main diet of the Flamingo is shrimp,shellfish and algae. The carotenoids in the food turn them pink.
This effect is not unlike what would happen if you ate a lot of carrots. The effect is startling, because over time, your skin gets an orange tinge to it. (Yes, really...but it takes a LOT of carrots...)
This bright pink, and sometimes almost red coloring is very attractive to the opposite sex because it signals to potential mates that they are very healthy and know where the "free shrimp buffet" is, so that also signals that they are a good provider.
Flamingos that are pale or almost white are not very healthy.

i think cause god was having a manic episode that day he decided to make flamingos pink......other manic episodes that followed was the peacock........the woodpecker........in his really down period....we see the blackbird.......the times he was sectioned, we saw the dodo and the ostritch.........and when he was well that one time......he actually was quite sucessful with the robin....around his sons birthday i think....oh and finally, that time of the eclipse when just as a piss take he made owls.............................to be honest...........I HAVE NO IDEA
