I do have children, but I also have a dog, a pedigree Boxer called Harley who is now 13 weeks old, and must say that I do agree that sometimes when Ive had the worst day I can ever imagine, I come home, look at her and think....wow! She does not judge me, ask me for money, place piles of paperwork onto my desk all she wants is to play ball and be given a little bit of praise for being my friend.
But then on the other hand, there are also days when I feel as though hell has been unleashed onto me, work is a nightmare, kids are playing me up, the bills have just started to roll in again, my bank balance is zero, my husband has the hump, the baby has scribbled all over my designer wallpaper thats only been on the walls like 4 weeks, the car broke down on my way home, it was raining and now think im gonna get the flu.......and then I walk through the front door, and theres the dog, smiling sweetly at me.......then I enter the kitchen and find the largest piles of poo everywhere! I mean these poo's are so big that Charles and Camilla are ski-ing down one of the slopes, theres ice on its peak! .................
......................and you ask? can they show you more affection? hell yeah! Every single day!

I miss having a dog. I don't have children yet but my partner and i have discussed getting a dog!
We had a dog when i was growing up who was more like a sister than a pet if that makes sense. She would sit at the front door and wait for me after school and if i was late she would get frantic and make sure my parents realised i was late! Dogs just are loving and devoted to their owners.
I think the answer to your question is that they can't be compared! Your dog relies on you for everything and so when you want to seek comfort there they are, your trusty companion! Human love has a lot more complications as we all know! If only things were more simple!
Well they do say It's a dogs life!

Dogs don't care what you look like in the morning, they couldn't care less if you gain a few pounds, they are always happy to see you. Below is my favourite dog tribute which sums it all up!
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his DOG. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wing and reputation falls to pieces, he is as content in his love as the sun in its journey throught the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast into the cold, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard him against danger, and to fight against his enemies. When the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws and his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death.
-Senator George Vest, 1870.

Dogs are good,
But being a Mum, girlfriend and general do gooder, i tend to find the dogs can't wash up, tidy up, make the bed, iron the clothes or sort all the bills out, whilst holding down a full time job. Mind you, you have a point...... The Dogs don't answer you back, like I sometimes do my partner!!!

Well, I am a oarent and a grandparent, and yes I feel the same way. My dogs can bring me out of the worst moods most of the time. I have a saying, "when you need a shoulder to cry on, a chihuahuas shoulder is huge."

Dogs have unconditional love unlike the human race they always have strings attached. I am a parent I love my kids but I love the time I can spend with my dog.

my dogs are a hunting breed so they are very perceptive of change. When i cry they run over and lick my face..its gross but it lets you know that they care and are trying to help. My poor little guy hides and starts shaking if i'm in a bad mood.
When i come home everyday they meet me at the door with tails wagging. The younger one learned how to smile (teeth out) at me. Scares the crap out of people who don't know what he's doing but I know that he's showing me he loves me. Wouldn't trade them in for anything (and have had offers from venezuela).
