PLEASE DO NOT GO ON DRUGS (AKA MEDICATION) FOR THIS!!!
I used to be like that and many grow out of it as they figure out life. It is actually VERY normal to an extent. I am nervous about having to be around all these people at this gathering I have to go to tomorrow! -- I still haven't fully gotten over my self consciousness and paranoia! But..
It's normal. It's important to stay focused, relax, be at peace. These people can't harm you without your permission. Take control.
It's your hormones most likely, especially being nervous around the girls.
People don't care AT ALL about what you look like or who you are, I swear to god~!
People look at you, then they look away and carry on about their business, you think everyone is talking about YOU, out of the millions of faces in the crowd!?! GET OVER YOURSELF! LOL
People don't give a crap, people are shallow and fickle and into THEMSELVES! not you!
They are probably looking at you looking at them and feeling paranoid and self conscious themselves,
people are naturally focused more on number 1 than anything you are doing.
Point given: Even people doing the most RIDICULOUS and absurd things on the street are given weird looks , laughed at, then people go right on, not obsessing, not caring!
there are photos of a dead man lying in the street with people stepping over him!
so you could even be DEAD lying there and way more people than you think wouldn't even stop to look...
as mortifying as that sounds it's true!
Just keep in mind that people only care about one thing: THEM!

Sounds like you may have social anxiety disorder. I believe I do too. I hate to stand in line and pay for stuff. Sometimes it's not so bad, but other times I get shaky and sweaty and just want to get the hell out of there. Once I do, I feel alot better.
I don't know how people can stand to work in public places like that. I guess they don't have that problem though.

It sounds like you have Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). It is one of the most common anxiety disorders. Talk to your doctor, he or she can prescribe effective medications and may be able to refer you to a good counselor or psychiatrist. Don't be embarrassed, it is very common. If you don'thave insurance there are many clinics that will charge you on a sliding scale so you may be charged little or nothing at all! There are also programs from drug companies to help you get medication at little or no cost. But please get treatment, you will feel so much better.

I have the exact same problem. I have trouble breathing when I'm surrounded by people or in open areas with lots of people. It's a crowd-phobia. I find it's easier to cope with when I have a friend with me and talk with that person. It tends to distract me. Otherwise, I walk fast to get out quickly. Tell me if you find another method.

Like you "I always feel like everyone is focusing their attention on me and watching me or something"
Sometimes I feel guilty of this, after all, who am I? why will people focus their attention on me?
But events lead to me being more afraid.........as a small kid my classmates teased me a lot (every year)& people always criticized how I look (i used to be overweight).
So more than sometimes, I am afraid of going outside the house
afraid that people will "make fun of me"------>thats what I say
I dont want to go inside a room full of people because im too embarassed and afraid that people will reject me & hurt my feelings.
Now to cope, I just try to remember that I am human too like them, I am NOT less than them (even if its hard). And those people wont eat me, coz I wont let them....hehehehe......do I make sense? hihi
