Do you live near by to the location of the wake? Do you know his family, your aunt and/or cousins?

Ask your parents (obviously one of them was the brother or sister to this man) if either of them would like you to attend. If yes, go. If not, you're off the hook.

Going or not is something you do for your parents, not yourself. Unless they tell you not to, you should go. It's not that long a time to take out of your busy schedule and would show respect for your family. You'll be glad you went if you go.

You should not feel obligated to attend the wake...since you had no relationship with him; but you may want to attend out of respect for your family...

The decision is strickly yours.

a wake is a time to remember the dead, if you do not remember him and are not interested in learning any thing about him then do not go
