It depends on what he means by a girl friend most kids his age much like my 7 year old say they have a boy friend or girl friend which just really means that they are good friends with the other child and have alot of fun playin with them . if they are kissing holding hands and things like that i doubt there is too much to worry about because of the fact that they probably see thier older brother/sister doing the same things but you may want to sit down with him and see exactly what he means by girlfriend at the age of 9 he is just a bit young to be saying girlfriend by the meaning that the older kids aka teens or parents may think of as bf and girl friend

No. A child's emotional development is still preparing for other obstacles, and the whole girlfriend / boyfriend relationships should be way down on the list. Relationships and dating are best saved for high school or later, when the emotional side of a child's brain is more developed for better decision-making and recognition of their own feelings.

I think it is important for girls and boys to have lots of friends. If they have a particularly close friend of the opposite sex, it is probably just fine as long as it is still innocent and simple. The key is to make sure communication is always open with your son or daughter and that they feel confident coming to you to discuss issues.

its only natural for boys and girls to say that they have a boyfriend/girlfriend

most kids start in kindergarden

i dont see a problem with it but the true question is are you comfortable with it not just supporting him with it if not maybe you should voice your concerns to him in a way he can understand

WELL IT DEPENDS ON WHAT H MANS BY GIRLFRIEND. IS IT JUST A GIRL THAT IS HIS FRIEND OR IS IT GIRLFRIEND AS AN I HOLD YOUR HAND AND KISS. BECAUSE IF IT'S THE SECOND ONE THEN I THINK HIS TO YOUNG AND PROBABLY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE A GIRLFRIEND AND ALL THE THING THAT COME WITH THAT LIKE COMMITMENT RESPONSIBILITY AND OTHER STUFF. IF HE DOESN'T KNOW WHY HE NEEDS A GIRLFRIEND THEN HIS NOT READY.

to be honest about it, its okay. they really aren't going out with each other. just ask yourself a few questions:

Do they do the normal BF/GF stuff together?
Do they kiss? If so, do they a have a make-out session?
Are they with each other for more than the time at school?

Just ask yourself those questions and evaluate the situation.

I hope I could help you out.

Of course, there's not much a nine year old can do that's necessarily considered wrong, it's fine.
