I do not believe it , i think he is just trying to cover up for the fact that he got caught telling his true feelings about our military. When Kerry returned from Vietnam he became a war protester and called our service people Baby killers, murderers, and even joined Jane Fonda in visiting communist countries. John Kerry hates our Military and our country, he will never Ketch-up with his wife or her money if he does not stop revealing his true hatred of America.

I believe he misspoke and probably should not try to be funny.
He is no comedian.
But what he said was basically the truth.
Or it will be the truth if the draft is ever reinstated.

"From 1963 to 1966, Cheney received five deferments: four student deferments while attending the University of Wyoming and one for having a child. "I had other priorities in the '60s other than military service," Cheney told a reporter in 1989."

Cheney is a GREAT PATRIOT:).
And he proved Kerry's point.

It may come as a surprise to a lot of people on this forum but many people join the military because it is a job with pretty good benefits.

So criticize Kerry.

But I am not impressed with patriotic gestures like the made in RED CHINA "I support our troops" bumper stickers bought for three dollars.
They sell "I support our troops." bumper stickers at the Korean Grocery near my home.
They are right there ....next to the "Horny Goat Weed powder." the fake aphrodisiac.

I support the troops by wanting to get them the hell out of there in one piece.

Look instead at what he meant. What he is trying to say is that, for many poor students, the military becomes the best option, because it provides opportunities otherwise unavailable. As an extension, it often occurs that more students are "forced" by this economic occurrence to join the military, where students who are better off have other options. Kerry's underlying concern is whether it is fair to place an undue burden of the danger on the poor.

I hope this helps, and I tried not to politicize too much.

No way, what kind of idiot would actually say that. If he is following his idea of who should be in Iraq maybe he should go for being a total idiot. He should be over there getting shot by terrorist and bombed on the sidewalk, like to see how he would feel. I sure would like to see him over there. There is a lot more brains needed there than over here trying to be something he could never have done!

Yes. He is sorry he didn't wait a couple of weeks before making that statement. Now he has ruined it for the dems. Yippee.

I think kerry is sorry that his remark was taken so out of context by the repukes. The comment he made or half joke was never intended to insult the brave men and women of the military and if you listen to what he said you will know it. The repukes and the media took the remark and blew it out of proportion in and effort to help the repukes running for office. What I heard was john kerry telling the students he was speaking to basically that unless they concentrated on their education they wouldn't leave themselves many options. they would basically end up in the military in Iraq.
listen to what he said and see if you dont come up with the same thing. He said it in less words but that is what he meant.
