November is also Native American month. You could let the kids help you make fried bread. You could fix the dough and then take it and cook it and let them try it, or try other recipies for Native American food.

You could get dried corn to make projects like picture frames.

You could get a picture of a turkey and fill it in with dried pasta and then let them put feathers along the edges.

You could make the pasta necklaces and paint them fall colors.

You could have them make popcorn balls and put candy corn for nose and tail feathers and red hots for eyes.

You could have them make a paper cornacopia and have them fill it will dried foods like corn, pasta, and rasins. If you wanted to you could also bake some small rolls using thick dough that they could put in too.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!!

my favorite one is "stone soup"--
we read the story, talked about sharing, and how to make soup, different kinds of soup(like chicken noodle, tortilla soup, menuedo, and others from other cultures), we made prints with different types of vegetables and fruit, and to top off the week we all brought in several items and made soup each child brougt one or two items and then using the book made soup, allowing the children to clean, touch, taste, smell, and even cut or break up the veggies and even helped to cook the soup(both on the top of the stove and even tried it in crock pots. and the children thought the funniest thing was that we used a real stone(it had been boiled several times)to make the soup.

another of my favorites is making bread(from a very simple recipe or from a frozen loaf) and then making butter.--making butter only needs some heavy cream a small baby food jar(or several to have all help) and a very, very small amount of salt (food coloring if you want) and then lots of kid power to shake, shake, shake the jars, till the butter forms, then tasting can take place....

each one shows children how important everyone is in the process of making meals and sharing duties in cooking..
