What should I do or attend to meet aspiring musicicans and film makers?

how do i find out which ones r legit and good places to go? usually the charge...so yeah? in texas ?..workshops? open mics? but i hate country music

I would think workshops are good but how about taking some classes at a local collee or university in the arts.
