He has been violent with me and my father in the past and has had 2 psychotic breaks in the last 3 years. He has been in the State Hospital twice, and currently is in a group home. I am afraid to have him back in my home. I'm disabled with severe Lupus, and my father is 81. We can't fight him, and can't help find him when he has his psychotic breaks. Is there anything we can do to help him? When the MHMR system quits funding his group home time, he will be released. His father will not take him, and I'm scared to death to. What can we do? We've applied for SSI, but a Judge is taking months to rule on his case. I couldn't live with myself if he were to be left to fend for himself, because he can't. He has delusions, hears voices, thinks he is part of Interpol, especially involving Northern Ireland. He's never been out of the US. He also thinks he's been psychic since he was 12. He says "I just know things". He also has OCD, has an Explosive Disorder and has Tourette's. HELP?

My heart and soul goes out to you after having read your life's story. You are 100% right that your son is a danger to himself and others. Believe me it would take nothing for him to kill you, himself or other around him.

I really fail to understand the "State Hospital", where you reside. They should have never released him to a half way house as he really belongs in a unit for the "Criminal Insane". (This does not mean that he is a "Crimial"). These units are used for people like your son who have serious mental illness. And the staff, including the psychiatrist have special training on dealing with patients who can become psychotic or any given reason.

In all reality in need to stay there and not be released to the general public. I know that he is your son, but you have every reason to fear for your life.

I don't see what SSI, is going to do for him, because he requires supervision 24 hours per day with the psychiatic DX., that you have described. He is not capable of living on his own. Plus he is a danger to you and society.

I know you love your son. And the very best you can do for your son is to get a judge to commit him back into the State Hospital onto a "Criminal Unit", where they have the skills and training to control aggressive behavior and psychotic behavior.

Wish I could offer you a better solution. Dealing with reality is very difficult when it is your flesh and blood. If you value your life and the life of others, plus your love for your son. Please do all possible with your own State Government to have him placed back into the hospital for good.

All patients have mental advocates to protect their rights. And alot of judges don't have the qualifications to deal with these types of situations. But they have the power being a judge to over-ride my professional desire to keep a person like you son in the hospital without release. They can let them out and then if the person harms some one or themselves they have to live with it forever.

God bless you and watch over you. Hope that your government and country will do the right things for your son. (What is sad, is that local governments only act when a life is taken).

Well you are taking the right steps in getting him SSI but i think that should have been done when he was younger, like as soon as he was diagnosed. I am not trying to nag, I am just worried for you. talk to the doctor and the home he is in. Hopefully his SSI will go through before he comes home.

And just as a side note you and your family might be interested in a non profit organization called NAPH (National Assosiation of the Physically Handicapped) you don't have to be disabled in any way to be a part of it and they are really helpfull people. the president is a personal friend of mine.http://www.healthfinder.gov/orgs/HR0259.htm The web page on there doesn't work but I know the address and numbers do... Good Luck to you and if there is any thing I can do please email :)

Lots and lots of anti-psychotics!!! Keep him vegetabilized...no kidding...you have yourself to worry about and your father don't put yourself in a dangerous situation.
