I think the one reason I'm so scared of getting into a relationship is having the guy tell me he "loves" me, and not having anything to say back. I feel like these days, we, as teenagers, use the word so vaguely, that people think since you're dating you "love" the person. I personally find it ridiculous. Maybe 3 or 4 months down the road you can say you "love" the person, but still it's a powerful word.

Does anyone else agree with me... disagree. I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

I completely agree...the only people you can truly love are in your family. And teenagers think that love, like you said, comes with being in a relationship. In some cases it can make a person uncomfortable, ie. maybe the person thinks that the other is moving too fast. At any rate, love is a word that should be expressed when you have true feelings for someone. The longer it is used as just a word the less meaning it will have. So when someone says they love me do i really know they mean it or are they just saying it because they think that it is what they are supposed to say when they are in a relationship.

You say you're a teen, and while you and your counterpart may have a general idea of what love is, in my opinion, it takes a while to really grasp the meaning. It goes far beyond holding hands, kissing, or even sex. There's a deeper connection involved, and you're right in feeling the way you do. Don't be afraid of relationships; you just need to find someone who can grow with you. That way, you can discover what true love is together.
