i have 2 moles on my back. there have not been any changes in them to suggest anything is wrong, but i am considering getting them removed. they are on the higher part of my back so when on holiday etc i put plasters over them for protection (i have very fair skin and burn really easily, even when using factor 45 ) the plasters have sometimes slipped without me realising it. i get really worried about skin cancer (especially because they are on my back it could take longer to realise any changes) would it cost me anything to get them removed? i also have a low pain threshold and am scared that it would hurt. i am in two minds, i want to get it done because im scared of skin cancer but also im scared to get it done. i know i need to see my doctor but i just want some other peoples opinions

I have a friend who has had many moles removed, she has 2 sisters who also have had many removed, the reason being that hteir Mum died when they were very little of skin cancer way before factors were on the market. So yes they are worth getting removed because then you can relax because you are already bein gvery sensible and wearing factor 45 and also covering them, the 3 girls i know that got them removed are in their 20s and the process is very quick and the only thing that hurts is the injection to freeze the skin and any good plastic surgeon will do this well so as to cause as little discomfort as possible. I'm speaking from an Irish perspective so we all have medical insurance, well, a lot of us do so it costs 150 euro to see a consultant and then the rest is free, well it's paid by your insurance company. In the U.K. I'm not sure how long the waiting list would be on the NHS. Do ask your doctor it is not painful at all you will need a few days to recover but seriously where they are wont bother you in theleast, my friend had to have a really big one removed from her groin and yes it hurt but a week off work and lots of tlc brought her back to normality in no time. Please go cos if you dont you will waste your time worrying over something you can do away with. Good luck!

I would get them checked by your doctor and discuss your concerns, you may well be referred to a dermatology clinic for further checks and they will decide wether they should be removed.
The fact that you are watchful of there condition and careful about them is very sensible,I wouldn't get over anxious about them though, especially as you haven't noticed any change.
I'm sure your doctor will put your mind at rest.
My wife had treatment for skin cancer some time ago,she has some moles and is also fair skinned. In her case it developed seperately from any moles and did not look anything like a mole.
Hope this helps.

See a dermatologist. In many cases, moles are easily removed by just spraying with liquid nitrogen, he wil apply it with a tube to the mole, it will blister up, later burst like a regular blister, and then new skin will grow back. No pain, but will get you better secure in your mindset.

I got 1 removed 2 weeks ago and i swear it was the easiest thing i ever got done! It took 2 mins max and there was no pain what so ever!! It was free for me because of the NHS I'm not sure what country you live in but if you want rid of them for free in the UK tell the doc you are self conscious of them!

Just get them removed and all the worry wil be over. The doctor will freeze them so you will not feel a thing and it will also put your mind at ease about all the other things.

Go to the doctor and get them cut off. It does not hurt. When i was thirteen i had four or on the front of my neck. All that my doctor did was take some tweezers and pull them away from my neck and snip them with snippers. It did not hurt to me. It is worth it. He will also check them for cancer.

I think that nowadays it is quite safe to have a mole removed.Just speak to your doctor about your fears, most doctors are very understanding. As to the cost,I have no idea if this would be described as cosmetic surgery or not, again your doctor will advise you on this.

it really doesnt hurt that bad....and since they are on your back it shouldnt be bad at all..they will numb it with a local ( shot) before they remove it so other than the needle you wont feel anything else......you should have it removed because of the cancer risk.
