Is it just me, or are you also bothered by the fact that a growing number of people these days put very little effort into typing their questions or answers? I can't count the number of times that I've tried to read a question or answer only to get so frustrated at the number of misspelled words or lack of punctuation that I just give up on reading it all together. Doesn't anyone take pride in their communication skills anymore? I just had to vent, thanks for listening.

I love how my point is proven yet again in some of the more "choice" answers provided. By the way, I don't spend much time on the playground "reno-tony", as I am an adult, and a much more educated one that you apparently. Oh, and as far as the coward comment...try again, I have no fear admitting to the world that I just reported you for abuse.

D.O.G. - Your sarcasm is duly noted and appreciated.

Yes Ron, I did mean "than" instead of "that". You can imagine my horror when I noticed that typo, ha ha.

Fallen - you are correct that your typing skills may be irrelevant in the OR (by the way, this isn't a contest of how important our jobs are), but this isn't the OR.

Yes, I absolutely hate people that A) Won't take the time to spell correctly or B) Won't take the time to look up the word they are wanting to spell. And if you can't be bothered to do either of those things then you should use the spell check option or go back to school so you can learn to spell.

Daisy, you said you type fast and without looking at the keyboard so you don't care about spelling errors...I too am a fast typer...typing well over 60 words a minute without looking at the keyboard and I use the correct fingers too but as you can tell, I'm not a bad speller. These people that come in here and ask questions that normal folk can not even decipher are only wasting their time.

The only people who don't care are those who are not intelligent enough to know any better and shouldn't be on here in the first place.

Yes, it does bother me. A typo now and then can be accepted, but there is no excuse for bad spelling. Almost all word processors have spell check. People who don't use it are sending a message, "I don't really care if you can read this or not". Education is very important. If I see a misprint in the newspaper or on the TV, the person's credibility is put in question. If you didn't pay attention in school, it's still not too late to learn to spell. It's your language, take pride in it.
P.S. Didn't you mean "than" instead of "that" after the educated statement?

Hi

Yes it does bug me.. however.. since I do it I cant complain about others.

Why do I do it you ask??? Well first.. I am 41,, college educated, and have excellent spellin and english skills...

I come out here to unwind, answer some wuestions and then often hit an area like Pets or Parenting that I have some expertise in. I usually dont have much time.. am typing looking at the keys not the screen, and doing about 3 other things while I am doing that..

So mistakes are made.. typos are there..
I do not have time to spell check, and frankly feel that if my answer is good its good regardless of typos....

I do understand and sympathize with you as I read questions that drive me nutso.. then I think.. uh.. I cant say a word unless mine ar eperfect as well...
Good to vent..
I only wanted to let you know how my answers end up with typos..

I do however make sure my questions have no typos

Gooood Luck... Deeeep breath....

I will admit it- my typing skills are not at all that great. Many times I have to go back and fix whatever mistakes I've made. But the thing is, I make a point of making sure it's correct when I hit the submit button here on Yahoo Q+A. That way, people know what I mean. After all, just because some people don't care doesn't mean I have to have the same attitude.

Yeah, it was poor math, and G.W. Bush did it. Guess he wasnt so bright. It was called take a surplus, and spend it all. Then borrow from China. Spend what we didnt have. That's it. Poor math skills. Spending what you didnt have. Now they are all whining about Obama, he is at least spending to try to make some money. Not just wasting it. And if these YA answers people had so many businesses, then they would be running them, not sitting on here all day! I'm a stay at home mom, and I can be here while I am cooking the stew! Cant iron while on here, though!

i to have asked just about the same question and got a whole lot of mean response. so to answer your question....yes it does bother me. i was taught to look at the screen while i was typing, not the keyboard, and also to use spell check. but i was fortunate to take a computer class. people need to get a grip and not sweat the small stuff. it is a simple question and answer game and people need to cool down with taking things so personal...maybe that's the reason why they are getting mad. maybe they are the ones who can't spell or remember to use spell check that only takes seconds of their day to use...

Some of the blame for that can probably go to our wonderful public education system. And parents are to blame too. But some of it may be just laziness on the part of the individual, either a laziness to learn or a laziness to type and spell properly.

It bothers me too, but not a whole lot. I do not like it when people use abbreviations for everything, or purposely misspell words. But I've learned to deal with in, considering that I'm a teenager and most of my friends do it because it's "the cool way to type." I can't blame them that much though, because I did it too... when I was nine years-old.

Being an academic type, it gives me the absolute heebie-jeebies. I can cope with it in an SMS because of how limited they are for space (my mates laugh at me for spelling correctly even in text messages), but there's at least a little room here for accuracy and it's really not that difficult. If people are as lazy as I believe they are, then surely - like me - they took typing as a bludge lesson at school, and can type things easily and fairly accurately.

It bothers me as well. There is a spell check and Firefox 2 has a built in spell check. It takes two seconds to spell check something.

But people are lazy. Who knows anymore. But I concur it's rather sad these days.
