They aren't living, sentient beings, but they aren't totally inanimate, either. Where do they fall into place?

well, lots of people are convinced god made AIDS as a punishment for sinning--if god was handing out std's as a punishment for sinning every church in the world would have an attached free clinic

Anything that has life has a soul according to the Vedic knowledge. The evidence of the soul is the life within the body. If something is living it has a soul. It is just a very unconscious living entity . IT is said that there are 8400,000 species of life. The soul transmigrates through all of these species until it reaches the human form of life then it has enough intelligence to question its existence. Animals eat, sleep mate and defend, so do humans, but if a human does not use their intelligence to understand their relationship with God they can descend into animal bodies or lower for some time. No he did not create biological viruses. Everything that he created was "good". Gen 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.
Any suffering that has been caused because of illness in this world is not God's doing. He made a perfect world, but man has chosen sin over God and is paying the consequences for it.

sorry, i guess god created the plagues of egypt so most likely hes been busy with more plagues for a modern world. but actually they evolved just like dinosaurs , apes and so on.
