You always want to wait until at LEAST the second heat. I would highly reccommend waiting until 1 year of age or older. My sister's cat had kittens at just under 7 months old and almost died from it. I literally had to deliver 3 of the 4 kittens. Vet told her that until the age of 1 year old, they're not developed enough for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Unless your cat is a show-quality purebred, she should be about 200 years old before you breed her. Seriously. With MILLIONS of cats euthanized in shelters every year... unless she's a purebred and you're breeding purebred, show-quality kittens... GET HER FIXED! At nine months... she's old enough to get accidentally pregnant NOW.
If you want to see how many homeless cats there really are... go to www.petfinder.com... select "cat" and enter your zip code. See how many hundreds pop up within a hundred miles of you. And those are just the ones in the shelters nice enough to have online access. The real hell-holes don't even list their cats on there.

Your cat should be spayed. What purpose do you have for breeding? is she a a registered pure bred with great blood lines? If not then get her spayed. Threes millions of unwanted cats in the world today. Be a responsible pet owner spay or neuter your pet.

Oh I totally agree!! I had been given a kitten (about 9 mo) and she was pregnant (we did not know). Anyway, she 'knew' that there was going to be problems and came and got me when it was time to have the kittens -- screamed at the top of her lungs until I followed her to her birthing box. I too had to deliver a couple of the kittens myself, mom just passed out.

OMG I so agree with all of the above. If your cat is not Pure bred show quality and ceritfied. For kitties sake please have her spayed ASAP. At 9 months old she is old enough to get pregnant. There are so many reasons we love our kitties and are proud of them, but they are NOT our children and we will not feel the same if our kitties make us Grammas. Please for the kittens and your cats sake get her spayed.

She should at least be a year old. It would probably be even better if she was a year and a half or two.
