i always take my dog...but my friends get doggie sitters. Either someone they know to go over there a few times or a agency that does that. you could always kennel a dog but mine gets freaked by that. For one night i suggest a neighbor to come over and let out at night and in the morning.

Ask a family member to pop in !! Or try a good neighbour you could trust with your house key or a responsible teenager, maybe leave the dog with a friend etc for the night.
Depending what time of day you were going out & coming back.
If you was away from ie.. 7pm feed the dog before you go & take it for a walk, someone could come to your house around 10.00pm make a fuss of the dog, refill the water bowl and give it it's last walk for the night.
Depending what time you get back the next day, have someone go to your house around 8.00am feed, water & walk the dog.

If its for a short amount of time where he won't miss a feeding or a trip outside I just leave him at home. If I am gone longer then that, our vet offers a great service where we can leave him overnight or as many days as we need....I think he actaully likes going there too, they're really nice and play with him and the other dogs there alot.
We just recently got an other dog so I think next time I'm gone for a day or two I might use their other service of having someone from the vets office to come to our house to feed them and let them out

book your dog into a good boarding kennels. thats what their there for. phone up as many as you want and ask ask a price and book an appointment to view. have a good look around and ask them questions you would like to no such as how many walks they get, will they feed your dog on what its fed at home if not can you take your own supply, are they kenneled seperatly, and can you take your dogs own bed/blanket, also is there any form of heating. if you dont like the idea of leaving your dog at a kennels ask a good friend or relative to stay overnight in your home with your dog. dont leave your dog on its own even if its only overnight anything can happen.

It depends on if it is just the night hours and you will be back in the morning. Like leaving at 8p.m. and returning at 8a.m. then I would just leave the dog at home. If you are going to be gone for 24 or 48 hours I would either have someone come over to let it out and spend some time with it or if that is not possible then I would board the dog at my vets. I have boarded the dog at my vets and they took excellent care of her.

Dogs are not like cats, they are dependant upon humans so if you are planning a night that will extend to overnight, you need to get someone to either house/dog sit (which is preferable) or see if someone will have the dog overnight...otherwise, bad luck, you can't go...sorry!!!

Get someone to mind him- it's not really fair to leave a dog alone for a great deal of time- they are pack animals. Do you have a neighbour or a family member that will mind him. Failing that I would put him into a boarding kennel for the night. Please don't lock him in the bathroom as one poster suggested- how would you fancy being locked in the bathroom all night!?

That is what boarding kennels are for! A little expense, maybe, but security and peace of mind. Maybe you could check some out in your area, ask your vet or other dog owners to reccommend a good one.
